High minerals, naturally carbonated. Standout values are calcium(345), magnesium(100), and bicarbonate(1800). Pump sourced from a series of 21 wells reaching ~200m below the surface. This area (Volcanic Eifel) is known for its volcanic geological history. The first well was drilled in 1888 by the mining firm of Wilhelm Castendyck. Gerolsteiner has been exporting to the US since 1928. Their factory was destroyed by a bombing raid in 1944, then rebuilt to function by 1948. |
